About Troll
Founded over 28 years ago, Troll Nursery are true pioneers of sustainable nursery furniture. Frustrated that furniture was being built in huge quantities from unsustainable and flimsy softwoods - with little attention given to detail or the environment - their founders set out to change the industry for the better.
Believing that a strong cot is a safe cot, Troll began sourcing their own hardwood birch from local suppliers, crafting furniture with designs as timeless as the wood itself. Nowadays Troll uses only non-toxic glues and water based paints - the latter of which they have developed a recycling system for, ensuring none goes to waste.
Constantly looking for new ways to reduce their environmental footprint, Troll use their wood shavings and offcuts to efficiently heat their timber kilns and workshops. The remaining waste is used to make timber briquettes - an efficient alternative to fossil fuels which they sell to the local community.
Sustainable Sourcing Since 1994
With forests covering 45% of the country, the Troll Nursery workshop in Latvia has been sourcing and milling their own Nordic birch since 1994.
All birch sourced by Troll is certified as sustainable by the Latvian state. This means that the trees are at least 25 years old when felled, and that the strongest trees are always left behind to repopulate the area.
Although it is harder to work with than other woods, Troll chose to work with birch for its natural abundance, sturdiness and beautiful grain. This produces furniture which is both aesthetically vibrant and built to last.
Our Mattresses
Over twenty years ago, we created the first baby mattress made from entirely natural fibres. We knew then that when it comes to where your child sleeps, organic and natural materials are simply better - for them, and for the planet.
Natural fibres are breathable, supportive, comfortable, naturally hypoallergenic, and help your little one better regulate their body temperature. This all adds up to better sleep.
