A sleek, natural & sustainable Scandi cotbed

Designed in Sweden with safety & style in mind, Troll's Torsten Cotbed is a sleek and sustainable sleeping solution with a modern, soft quality. Its hand-waxed rounded spindles and curved corners create a safe, welcoming environment for your child. Plus, with the included junior bed kit (featuring 2 lowered side rails and a lowered foot end), the Torsten Cotbed converts into a stylish junior bed with ease - providing consistent familiarity as your little one grows.

The Torsten is delightfully versatile, with an adjustable base featuring three mattress positions and removable side rails which turn the cotbed into a stylish junior bed. Start with the mattress in the raised position to be close to your baby, and gradually lower it as they grow to ensure their safety. When they’re ready to start venturing out of the cotbed on their own, use the included conversion kit to remove both sides and lower the foot end, granting them their independence whilst still offering a comforting and familiar space.

The beautiful contrast created between the hand-waxed natural spindles and water-based exterior paint of the Torsten provides a stunning centrepiece for your little one’s nursery, with enduring design and versatility. Available in either white with waxed wood accents or grey with teak accents, the Torsten is sure to provide years of safe, sustainable sleep.

Every piece of furniture made by Troll is rigorously tested by their own in-house safety team to meet both British and European standards, so you can sleep soundly at night knowing your little one is safe. In fact, the solid designs and sturdy materials used to make Troll furniture ensures it can be disassembled, then reassembled later if you have another child.

We offer a choice of either our Coco Mat or Latex Mat mattresses with the Troll Torsten Cotbed - both wonderfully natural and sustainable options, optimised for different ages. Handmade in Devon from natural & organic materials, the Coco Mat provides a firm, flat & chemical-free sleep surface (as recommended by the Lullaby Trust) which is perfect for your baby. For older babies & toddlers, Latex Mat offers a slightly softer, yet equally natural sleep surface to accommodate their growing bones.

About Troll

Founded over 28 years ago, Troll Nursery are true pioneers of sustainable nursery furniture. Frustrated that furniture was being built in huge quantities from unsustainable and flimsy softwoods - with little attention given to detail or the environment - their founders set out to change the industry for the better.

Believing that a strong cot is a safe cot, Troll began sourcing their own hardwood birch from local suppliers, crafting furniture with designs as timeless as the wood itself. Nowadays Troll uses only non-toxic glues and water based paints - the latter of which they have developed a recycling system for, ensuring none goes to waste.

Constantly looking for new ways to reduce their environmental footprint, Troll use their wood shavings and offcuts to efficiently heat their timber kilns and workshops. The remaining waste is used to make timber briquettes - an efficient alternative to fossil fuels which they sell to the local community.

Sustainable Sourcing Since 1994

With forests covering 45% of the country, the Troll Nursery workshop in Latvia has been sourcing and milling their own Nordic birch since 1994.

All birch sourced by Troll is certified as sustainable by the Latvian state. This means that the trees are at least 25 years old when felled, and that the strongest trees are always left behind to repopulate the area.

Although it is harder to work with than other woods, Troll chose to work with birch for its natural abundance, sturdiness and beautiful grain. This produces furniture which is both aesthetically vibrant and built to last.

Our Mattresses

Over twenty years ago, we created the first baby mattress made from entirely natural fibres. We knew then that when it comes to where your child sleeps, organic and natural materials are simply better - for them, and for the planet.

Natural fibres are breathable, supportive, comfortable, naturally hypoallergenic, and help your little one better regulate their body temperature. This all adds up to better sleep.
