As part of our partnership with The Lullaby Trust, we are proud to be helping families in need across the capital by donating 120 of our Coco Mat mattresses to Little Village, a London-based baby bank. According to a 2022 survey, 79% of baby banks say that children they support don't have a safe place to sleep. This leaves many babies sleeping on towels, sofa cushions, or co-sleeping with parents and siblings, all of which increases the risk of SIDS.
Naturalmat Baby is proud to have a rich history of promoting safer, healthier sleep. Our story began in 1999, when our founder Mark created the first natural nursery mattress to meet all British safety standards without the use of glues, chemical fire retardants or other synthetics. Over 20 years later, we are still championing safer, natural sleep for both children and grown-ups - one of the pillars of our Sustainability Strategy launched in 2021.
In September 2022 we proudly announced our partnership with The Lullaby Trust, the UK’s leading safer sleep charity. Together we are dedicated to raising awareness of SIDS and promoting safer sleep for babies & children across the country. As part of our partnership - and our commitment to making a better night's sleep accessible to all - we have donated 120 of our natural fibre Coco Mat mattresses to Little Village, of which Mark personally delivered the first to their Tooting HQ last year (pictured).
What is Little Village?
Little Village is a London-based network of baby banks which supports families with babies and children under five living in poverty across the capital, accepting referrals from professional and voluntary organisations working with families. From children of single parents to asylum seekers, Little Village provides clothes, books, toys and nursery furniture for over 7000 children a year.
A registered charity, Little Village relies heavily on donations of pre-loved clothing and equipment which are collected, sorted and passed on to those in need. Little Village also supports families via their dedicated signposting and guidance team, offering advice and links to other services including the Lullaby Trust.
Little Village has hubs in Camden, Wandsworth, Brent, Hackney and Hounslow. Since it launched in 2016, the charity has fulfilled more than 32,000 requests for support and provided more than £9.8m worth of baby equipment and clothes.
About Our Partnership
Through our partnership with Little Village, we are proud to be helping 120 families in London create a safe & healthy sleep space for their little one this year. To do this, we have donated 120 of our Coco Mat mattresses to be shared between Little Village's London hubs.
When a new family is referred, Little Village works with them to assess their needs and ensure they are catered for. Those who are in need of a safer sleep space for their child are able to choose a Coco Mat to be delivered to their door along with a range of other items including clothes, toiletries and books.
As one of the pioneers of safer sleep in the UK, our founder Mark (pictured with CEO of The Lullaby Trust Jenny Ward, and Sophie Livingstone MBE, CEO of Little Village) is incredibly excited about the collaboration: “It’s all too easy to take a good night’s sleep for granted but we mustn’t forget that many people can’t afford a mattress for their baby, let alone a natural one. So, as part of the partnership, we’ll be donating 120 of our Coco Mat mattresses to Little Village. One of our goals as a business is to make healthy sleep accessible to all, a desire shared by The Lullaby Trust, and so we hope this donation will give many babies the best possible start in life.”
