Curved to perfection, with a softly sculpted silhouette inspired by 1970s Italian glamour
Named after a Devon village close to some of the county's best surfing and the sweeping dunes of Braunton Burrows, this bed takes its cues from the relaxed elegance of 1970s Italian design: a tapered, softly sculpted profile with ample proportions, refined for today's interiors.
At its heart is the softly rounded, oversized headboard. Deeply padded with our signature organic wool, it cocoons the mattress with a backdrop that feels both architectural and inviting. Its graceful angle continues seamlessly through the side rails, creating a continuous line that gives the whole frame a subtle sense of movement.
As well as providing breathability and cushioning, the organic wool acts as a natural fire retardant, allowing us to pass strict British fire regs without the use of any chemical fire retardants whatsoever.
The Braunton’s substantial upholstered base extends proudly beyond the mattress, and despite its sculptural presence, comes apart into headboard, side rails and slats, ideal for narrow stairwells and doorways.
Both the headboard and base are filled with breathable recycled denim, repurposed cotton offcuts from the textile industry, which create a distinctively soft, tailored silhouette.
The Braunton Bed above is photographed in our Sienna Jute Linen House Fabric, with our Organic Hemp Bed Linen and Wallace Sewell for Naturalmat British Wool Throw.

Very few beds are built the way we build them
Handmade in Devon, properly
We handcraft our beds in our Devon workshop using traditional joinery techniques which ensure they last a lifetime. Unlike most bed frames which are simply stapled together, ours are glued (using a non-toxic glue) and screwed for a much sturdier and longer lasting construction. And because we make everything ourselves, we’re always happy to accommodate bespoke requests like making headboards taller or wider, or swapping the standard feet for something different.

The natural difference
Many of the same natural and organic fibres in our mattresses feature in our beds too. We start with FSC-certified timber (FSC® C185003) for the frame and layer on organic coir or recycled denim depending on the design. The headboard is then wrapped in locally sourced organic wool before being finished with one of our natural fabrics. The result is a natural bed, completely free of synthetic foam and chemical fire retardants, which will provide years of comfort.

Our fabrics
We have curated a collection of natural fabrics, featuring unique fibres like linen, wool and hemp, chosen not only for their look & feel, but also for the ethos & sustainability credentials of the mill itself. Using the fabric selector at the top of the page, you can order up to 5 free swatches which should arrive within a week.
A bed for life
Many beds today are flimsily put together and not made to last. As a result, millions end up in landfill every year – a terrible reality that never sat right with us. At Naturalmat, we do things differently. Not only are our beds properly made and built to last, but when the time comes to replace or refresh them, our Bed for Life Initiative™ gives you three sustainable options:
