Handcrafted in our Devon workshop, the Otterton Bed Base takes its cue from mid-century design – clean lines, calming forms, and that effortless elegance that never goes out of style. From the tapered oak legs to the floating base set on a solid oak plinth, it’s understated luxury that’s unmistakably Naturalmat.

As with all our beds, our skilled upholsterers only use natural fibres, as opposed to synthetic foam. In the Otterton Base, they layer on organic coconut fibre and organic wool to provide essential spring and ventilation to your bed base. The result is a much healthier and more comfortable sleep environment.

Choose from our range of house fabrics, or source something special yourself. However you style it, this is furniture built for the long haul and the long lie-in. Because when something’s made with nature’s finest materials and proper craftsmanship, it’s built to last. The Otterton Bed Base pictured above is upholstered in Washed Linen, Tangerine.

Very few bed bases are built the way we build them

Handmade in Devon, properly

We handcraft our bed bases in our Devon workshop using traditional joinery techniques which ensure they last a lifetime. Unlike most bed frames which are simply stapled together, ours are glued (using a non-toxic glue) and screwed for a much sturdier and longer lasting construction. And because we make everything ourselves, we’re always happy to accommodate bespoke requests like swapping the standard feet for something different.

The natural difference

Many of the same natural and organic fibres in our mattresses feature in our bed bases too. We start with FSC-certified timber (FSC® C185003) for the frame and layer on organic coir or recycled denim depending on the design. The result is a natural bed base, completely free of synthetic foam and chemical fire retardants, which will provide years of comfort.

What You Need To Know About Delivery

  • When can I expect delivery?

    Our current delivery time for bed bases is 4-6 weeks. We’ll be in touch the week before your delivery date to discuss a convenient time and talk through any access issues for your property.

  • How will my bed base arrive?

    We will deliver your bed base in a reusable duffel bag (rather than plastic), with the base split or in one piece depending on the option you select above. Please consider whether your bed base will fit up the stairs when making this choice!

  • Will you help me build it?!

    Yes, fear not! Our bed bases are delivered by our own two person team who will take it up to your bedroom, assemble it for you and bring the reusable duffel bags back to our workshop.
