For those who like the look of a divan base but prefer a more low-profile option, the Salcombe Base is just the ticket. A shorter, sleeker version of our Coco Base, the Salcombe features fixed upholstered slats and is the perfect building block to match with one of our Natural-Fibre Headboards.


Available for upholstery in a range of fabrics - including our Organic House Linen and options from Romo, Kirkby and Colefax & Fowler - (or even a fabric of your choice!), the Salcombe Base is the perfect sleek divan option.


Please note that unless otherwise specified, bed bases from a Small Double and larger come split in two (head to toe) as standard, for ease of delivery.

Very few bed bases are built the way we build them

Handmade in Devon, properly

We handcraft our bed bases in our Devon workshop using traditional joinery techniques which ensure they last a lifetime. Unlike most bed frames which are simply stapled together, ours are glued (using a non-toxic glue) and screwed for a much sturdier and longer lasting construction. And because we make everything ourselves, we’re always happy to accommodate bespoke requests like swapping the standard feet for something different.

The natural difference

Many of the same natural and organic fibres in our mattresses feature in our bed bases too. We start with FSC-certified timber (FSC® C185003) for the frame and layer on organic coir or recycled denim depending on the design. The result is a natural bed base, completely free of synthetic foam and chemical fire retardants, which will provide years of comfort.

What You Need To Know About Delivery

  • When can I expect delivery?

    Our current delivery time for bed bases is 4-6 weeks. We’ll be in touch the week before your delivery date to discuss a convenient time and talk through any access issues for your property.

  • How will my bed base arrive?

    We will deliver your bed base in a reusable duffel bag (rather than plastic), with the base split or in one piece depending on the option you select above. Please consider whether your bed base will fit up the stairs when making this choice!

  • Will you help me build it?!

    Yes, fear not! Our bed bases are delivered by our own two person team who will take it up to your bedroom, assemble it for you and bring the reusable duffel bags back to our workshop.

    Excellent customer service

    My child managed to break her Salcombe bed base jumping on it with her friend. I was extremely relieved when Naturalmat came to pick it up (from Devon to Kent where we live) and then made us a new bed base for a reasonable cost. This all happened within a couple of weeks and the people I spoke to on the phone and the delivery men were all very kind and helpful. The bed is now good as new!
