Our clever Ottoman Storage Base employs gas struts to hide ample stowage beneath its stylish exterior.
The Ottoman takes the appearance of a standard divan base, raised 2cm from the floor on short oak bun feet. It is beneath this unassuming exterior that the Ottoman hides its party piece - powerful gas struts that allow the entire mattress to be easily raised, opening up a vast area of under-bed storage.
If you like the storage idea but prefer a thinner profile, check out our new Low Ottoman Bed Base, still plenty of storage space but slimmer.
Perfect for storing duvets, bedding and other bedroom clutter, the Ottoman Storage Base is available in sizes from single to emperor, and can be upholstered in our range of fabrics - including our Organic House Linen and options from Romo, Kirkby and Colefax & Fowler. Alternatively, we can upholster your Ottoman in a fabric you supply. You can order fabric samples here.
The Ottoman Storage Base is available in our full range of sizes but can also be made to measure to suit your custom size requirements.

Our tallest and most stately headboard. This elegantly sweeping silhouette has become somewhat of a Naturalmat signature, and looks great in fabrics with large patterns.
The Stella
Dreamily thick padded headboard. Floor-standing and sturdy, the Stella is thick and deep profiled.
The Prideaux
Chic, pillowy headboard just perfect for cosying up with a good book, or paper. Pleated and pillow-like, it is stuffed full of our incredible organic west-country lambswool.
Ottoman bases from small double size and upwards come split into two pieces by default and will be delivered fully assembled by our delivery team.

Very few bed bases are built the way we build them
Handmade in Devon, properly
We handcraft our bed bases in our Devon workshop using traditional joinery techniques which ensure they last a lifetime. Unlike most bed frames which are simply stapled together, ours are glued (using a non-toxic glue) and screwed for a much sturdier and longer lasting construction. And because we make everything ourselves, we’re always happy to accommodate bespoke requests like swapping the standard feet for something different.
The natural difference
Many of the same natural and organic fibres in our mattresses feature in our bed bases too. We start with FSC-certified timber for the frame and layer on organic coir or recycled denim depending on the design. The result is a natural bed base, completely free of synthetic foam and chemical fire retardants, which will provide years of comfort.
Our fabrics
We have curated a collection of natural fabrics, featuring unique fibres like linen, wool and hemp, chosen not only for their look & feel, but also for the ethos & sustainability credentials of the mill itself. What You Need To Know About Delivery

When can I expect delivery?
Our current delivery time for bed bases is 4-6 weeks. We’ll be in touch the week before your delivery date to discuss a convenient time and talk through any access issues for your property.

How will my bed base arrive?
We will deliver your bed base in a reusable duffel bag (rather than plastic), with the base split or in one piece depending on the option you select above. Please consider whether your bed base will fit up the stairs when making this choice!

Will you help me build it?!
Yes, fear not! Our bed bases are delivered by our own two person team who will take it up to your bedroom, assemble it for you and bring the reusable duffel bags back to our workshop.

We ummed and aahed about going to the extra expense of an Ottoman base, and are so glad we did. It simply oozes quality in both design and fabrication. The gas springs exert just the right force to enable it to be opened one-handed with the heavy king-size lambswool mattress on top of it.
