A chic, pillowy headboard, made for cosying up.
The Prideaux with its chic, pillowy headboard just perfect for cosying up with a good book, is made by hand in our Devon workshop with the very best organic, natural, and sustainable materials.
The headboard
Pleated and pillow-like, it is stuffed full of our incredible organic west-country wool and recycled denim. Add in a good book and a hot chocolate, and you’re set for even the rainiest Sunday afternoon. As with everything we do, you can customise the height of your Prideaux headboard. Although we love the classic 124cm height, we think it looks particularly good as a Low Prideaux, which we've designed to be only 104cm tall.
The base
Behind the scenes, the Prideaux is built atop a sturdy solid wooden base, topped with layers of our organic coconut fibres (coir) and locally sourced organic wool with solid beech legs. All are made lovingly by hand in our Devon workshop.

Please note that unless otherwise specified, bed bases from a Small Double and larger come split in two (head to toe) as standard, for ease of delivery.
Please note, as all of our beds are made by hand, there may be a variance of up to 3cm (+ / -) on the above dimensions. If you need your beds to be precisely the dimensions requested (to fit in an alcove, for example), please let us know when you place your order.
Very few beds are built the way we build them
Handmade in Devon, properly
We handcraft our beds in our Devon workshop using traditional joinery techniques which ensure they last a lifetime. Unlike most bed frames which are simply stapled together, ours are glued (using a non-toxic glue) and screwed for a much sturdier and longer lasting construction. And because we make everything ourselves, we’re always happy to accommodate bespoke requests like making headboards taller or wider, or swapping the standard feet for something different.
The natural difference
Many of the same natural and organic fibres in our mattresses feature in our beds too. We start with FSC-certified timber (FSC® C185003) for the frame and layer on organic coir or recycled denim depending on the design. The headboard is then wrapped in locally sourced organic wool before being finished with one of our natural fabrics. The result is a natural bed, completely free of synthetic foam and chemical fire retardants, which will provide years of comfort.

We have curated a collection of natural fabrics, featuring unique fibres like linen, wool and hemp, chosen not only for their look & feel, but also for the ethos & sustainability credentials of the mill itself. A bed for life
Many beds today are flimsily put together and not made to last. As a result, millions end up in landfill every year – a terrible reality that never sat right with us. At Naturalmat, we do things differently. When can I expect delivery?
Our current delivery time for beds is 9 working weeks. We’ll be in touch the week before your delivery date to discuss a convenient time and talk through any access issues for your property.

How will my bed arrive?
We will deliver your bed in a reusable duffel bag (rather than plastic), with the base split or in one piece depending on the option you select above. Please consider whether your bed will fit up the stairs when making this choice!

Will you help me build it?!
Yes, fear not! Our beds are delivered by our own two person team who will take it up to your bedroom, assemble it for you and bring the reusable duffel bags back to our workshop.

Who would have thought a bed would make so much of a difference! We've always had a great mattress and decided to splash out on the Prideaux from Naturalmat and it was the BEST decision. The bed was made to order - when it arrived with the wrong size headboard the team couldn't help fast enough and turned around a new one in less than a week. It is stunning and amazingly comfortable. Every aspect of customer service, from shop, to communications and aftercare has honestly been exceptional. I cannot recommend this company enough. We had the bed made in toffee colour fabric and it is so soft to the touch and beautifully crafted.

We have gone for a zip and link mattress - one side firm, one medium. Both of us have slept better than we have in years. The bed is beautifully made, you can tell it is by craftsmen and not machine made. It is beautifully finished and looks great in our bedroom.
