Devon Local Guide: Stay

Devon Local Guide: Stay

For the past month, we’ve been showcasing 25 of our favourite local Devon businesses in celebration of our 25th birthday. This week, we’re highlighting five of our favourite places to stay. Our final guide is a special one, as every one of our favourite spots features Naturalmat mattresses. After 25 years, we are incredibly proud to be the natural choice for both local hotels and some of the best places to stay around the world.

Cottage Orné

Cottage Orné is a collection of three unique properties set within the magical backdrop of Dartmoor National Park. All the cottages feature incredibly interesting interiors, with striking wallpapers and stunning antiques, as well as our Splendid Mattresses. The first property, Professor’s Residence, is a quintessential thatched farmhouse with five double bedrooms, each of which have their own personality. The Philosopher’s cottage, which sleeps six, is earthy and calm, while the Artist’s Cottage features playful interiors that inspire creativity. Bookings are currently open for the Professor’s Residence, while bookings for the other properties are due to open this summer, so keep an eye out!

Wilderhus Glamping

Wilderhus offers three unique tiny homes, all of which are based in South Devon and have their own particular charm. Each of these eccentric spaces comes with a Scandinavian-style wood-fired hot tub, and our Mohair & Lambswool Mattresses. The original hand-built Shepherd’s Hut comes with its own separate treehouse and stargazing platform. Wilderhus also offers a second Shepherd’s Hut, based on the fairytale ideal of a forest hideaway. Their Vintage American Airstream is gutted and redesigned to maximise light and space, with plants climbing the walls to bring nature inside. Best of all, they’re fully committed to mindful, sustainable tourism.

River Cottage

River Cottage has given millions of TV viewers a taste for great cooking since 1999, when it first brought its food ethos to Channel 4. Centred around improving welfare and sustainability of animals and fish, their site is the base for a Cookery School, unique dining experiences, memorable events and B&B experiences. River Cottage offers a beautiful and stylish Farmhouse (sleeps six), a cosy Gardener’s Cottage (sleeps four), and a refreshing off-grid Cabin (sleeps two) with far-reaching views across the spectacular Axe valley. These were restored to reflect their sustainable ethos, while maintaining original traditional features. In line with their sustainable luxury, they feature our Superb Mattress.

The Salutation Inn

Neighbours to our Devon workshop, The Salutation is an ancient Inn with modern facilities in the centre of Topsham. It’s been an Inn since 1720, and features one of the largest single leaf doors in the country. Above the entrance is the Assembly Room, with architecturally unique Venetian windows that have famous 1774 graffiti etched on the glass. In addition to guaranteeing you a good night’s sleep on our Superb Mattress, The Salutation also boasts a lovely courtyard and restaurant which offers Lunch, Afternoon Tea and Dinner.

Lympstone Manor

This luxury five-star country house hotel overlooks the tranquillity of the Exe Estuary and The Jurassic Coast. Based around a Grade II listed Georgian Manor house, which has been restored into a luxury hotel for the 21st century, are countless dream-like attractions such as a beautiful vineyard, unique shepherd’s huts (which feature our Superb Mattress), and a restaurant serving Michelin-star cuisine. Each room is named after a bird of the Exe estuary, and uses its avian namesake for design inspiration. The Shepherd’s Huts live in secluded woodland, and are named after woodland animals. Lympstone Manor also hosts events, so keep an eye out for what’s on.
