Since 1999, we’ve used the naturally fire-retardant properties of organic wool to help our mattresses meet strict British fire safety standards, without spraying on chemical fire retardants. More than 25 years after making our first mattress, we still believe the simplest solution is the best one.

Fire Safety, the Natural Way
We use generous layers of certified organic wool inside our mattresses and weave wool into our mattress covers, creating a naturally fire-retardant barrier.
The result? Mattresses and toppers designed to meet strict British fire safety regulations without added chemical fire retardants.
Nothing sprayed on. Nothing added. Just wool doing what wool does naturally.
What’s Inside Our Mattresses?
It’s simple really. We stuff them full of lovely natural fibres and leave out the nasty synthetic foams and plastics you’ll find elsewhere. Only the finest organic and natural materials, carefully selected for their sleep-enhancing properties.
And because we believe in total transparency, we’ll always tell you exactly what goes into our mattresses and what doesn’t.

Fire Safety, the Natural Way
Wool is remarkable stuff. Its natural structure makes it far more resistant to fire than many other fibres. Long before synthetic treatments and chemical fire retardants existed, wool was prized for its natural resistance to fire.
Naturally difficult to ignite
Wool has a naturally high ignition point, meaning it takes more heat to catch fire.
Naturally self-extinguishing
Rather than continuing to burn, wool tends to char and self-extinguish once the source of the flame is removed.
It doesn’t melt
Unlike many synthetic fibres, wool doesn’t melt or drip when exposed to heat.
Rich in nitrogen and moisture
Wool’s naturally high nitrogen and water content helps make it resistant to ignition and slows the spread of flame.
